Beauregard was not only garishly dishevelled and excessively late to the baptism, he was also—unforgivably—dead. As his body fell out of the towel-closet face-first into the church pool, it would have dawned on him—had his sun not conclusively set the evening prior—that he was now the first corpse in the town's history to seek the status of being born-again.
